KANAWHA COUNTY MOVING FORWARD ON CONSOLIDATION PLAN

Kanawha Superintendent Ron Duerring is recommending the closure of Bonham Elementary.

The Kanawha County school board is looking for help from the state School Building Authority to build an addition onto Flinn Elementary School.

The board is seeking funds from the School Building Authority to build four classrooms onto the school.

The project comes as part of a proposed plan to consolidate Flinn and Bonham elementary schools in Sissonville.

The plan calls for Bonham students from kindergarten through fourth grade to be sent to Flinn.

Fifth-graders from Bonham, Flinn and Sissonville Elementary will be sent to Sissonville Middle School. Sissonville Middle is also supposed to receive an addition to accommodate the fifth-graders.

The board can only ask the authority to provide funding of up to $1 million for one major improvement project a year.

Superintendent Ron Duerring said he’ll meet with the School Building Authority at its September 30 meeting.
